Transportation

Airports

Three airports are in close proximity to the conference site. The main airport is located in San Francisco (SFO), will likely have the most options for international flights and domestic flights. The smaller Oakland (OAK) and San Jose (SJC) airports provide a limited number of direct international flights as well. Each of these airports is within a short drive of the meeting venue.

Getting to the venue from the airport

The Bay Area has a good commuter rail system (BART) which provides service to Dublin/Pleasanton. The rail system runs directly from San Francisco and Oakland airports. Hours of operation are 5:00 am – 12:00 am. Typical one-way fares are $10 or less.  There are generally several taxis waiting near the station during hours when BART is running.  Use this web link to calculate the fare for your next trip: https://www.bart.gov/tickets/calculator . Contact the Sheraton Hotel Shuttle at 925-760-8800 for pick up at the BART station. Trains generally depart every 15 minutes or so during working hours, and every 20 minutes later in the evening. For your reference, a map of the BART system is provided below.

Bus service to the hotel is not very good. I would urge participants to stay at the symposium hotel, or use a taxi (925-463-9999) or carpool if staying elsewhere. Uber or Lyft are also good alternatives.

From San Francisco (SFO):

Using BART: From the International Terminal, take the AirTrain to Garage G/BART station stop. When you arrive at the San Francisco Airport BART station (http://www.bart.gov/), you will need to purchase a ticket from one of the vending machines located near the entrance. The machines accept most credit and ATM cards, as well as cash. A typical one-way fare from San Francisco to Dublin/Pleasanton is on the order of $11.60. Take the Pittsburg/Bay Point train, transfer at Balboa Park, then travel to your final destination at Dublin/Pleasanton. Total transit time on BART should be approximately 70 minutes. One word of caution: BART shuts down after approximately 12:30 pm in the evening. Please plan your trip accordingly. (If you miss the last train, a taxi ride back from San Francisco Airport will likely cost over $150.)

Taking a taxi: Typical fares to Pleasanton are approximately $100.  Ride-share may be less expensive, and are available at the airport for a typical fare of $40-$50 per passenger.

From Oakland (OAK):

Using BART: When leaving the airport, get on the BART shuttle between Terminals 1 & 2.  This will take you to the main rail system.  Shuttles run every 6 minutes. The shuttle will drop you off at the Coliseum/Oakland Airport BART station.  Tickets for the BART system can be purchased from vending machines located within the station.  (Cash and credit cards are accepted.)  Take a Dublin/Pleasanton train to Dublin/Pleasanton station.  Total transit time on BART should be approximately 15 minutes.

Taking a taxi directly from the airport is alternate option.  Typical fares to Dublin/Pleasanton are approximately $20 (assuming mild traffic.)  Ride-share vans are less expensive, and are also available at the airport.

From San Jose (SJC):

Using BART: Unfortunately, there is no BART service yet from San Jose airport.

Taking a taxi directly from the airport is alternate option.  Typical fares to Dublin/Pleasanton are approximately $50 (assuming mild traffic.)  Ride-share vans are less expensive, and are also available at the airport.
